Buy the frame for the room you have
Measure beyond the mattress footprint. Headboards, side rails, and footboards can add substantial length or width. A storage bed also needs space to open its drawers. Tape the outside dimensions on the floor, then open the closet and bedroom doors.
If you already own a mattress, check its size, thickness, and support requirements against the proposed frame. Get the support system in writing: slats, a platform, or a separate foundation can change what else you need to buy.
Dressers and nightstands are good places to save
A matching set is optional. Start with the storage you actually need and the space beside the bed. A nightstand that fits between the bed and wall is more useful than one that matches but blocks a drawer.

A custom frame or dresser can solve an awkward dimension, but get the drawing and finish sample approved before work begins.
